I told Social Entrepreneur, Sam Caster, on the phone that my perception of addressing malnutrition included the picture of a large truck traveling down a dirt road in Africa. It pulls up to a small village characterized by children who are all virtually naked and with bloated stomachs.
The people who brought the truck unload many large bags of powder that is added to water in buckets and passed out to the villagers who consume it.
Sam responded to me, “Don’t get me started.”
As he went on to say, this has been the standard in decades gone by for addressing starvation, not necessarily malnutrition. Plus, the “powder” though gratefully received by starving villages is a highly processed food short on nutrition.
The only substantial way to address these kinds of issues is through the highest quality standardized whole food nutrients by consistent projects and programs.
