I think the last time this commercial was on TV was 1979. Now that would be before you were born. Thank you for telling my age. I didn’t reveal it completely, but it was an E.F. Hutton commercial. E.F. Hutton is a brokerage firm and for a while in the 70s they had commercials where two people would be talking in a busy airport or in a busy restaurant and one man would be saying to another, well, my broker is E.F. Hutton and E.F. Hutton says, and then the whole restaurant or airport or wherever the environment was would go perfectly silent while everybody waited with bated breath on what the guy was going to say about what E.F. Hutton says about investments. Interesting commercial.
I literally have thought of Sam Caster in that way. That when he speaks, you want to listen. You do want to listen. When he’s around, I just kind of shut up because I want to hear what he has to say. He’s just that smart and he’s got his hand on the pulse of what’s happening in business and also social business as we hope to reveal.
Yeah, he has a huge heart. Yes. He and Linda. They’ve been so wonderful to get to know. But you’re a lifelong learner. I feel like you’re always picking up things. You don’t seem to be closed-minded. You’re always learning something new. And he became a social business, social entrepreneur.
Yeah. Mostly because of his adoption heart of he and Linda. Yeah. But they had a heart for fatherless children. That’s the way he put it. Fatherless children. And of course, that’s the epitome of the orphan’s fate is no parents and specifically no father, as he put it. They got involved in supporting orphanages and children in general around the world.
And the story goes that a Romanian orphanage was giving he and some other donors an update on what was happening in that orphanage. You know, thanking them for their donations and such. Then at the end, the director of the orphanage basically announced, but pray for us. Please concern yourself about what we’re going through because our children are sickly. They’re malnourished and we lose 30 to 40 children a year, as in they die.
Wow. At that time, he had been in nutrition development in a business for about four or five years. So he went to them after the meeting and says, listen, my donor dollar goes so far, but you know what? I think I can send you some nutrition over there in powdered form and you could add it to the food that they already eat and we might be able to make a difference. Matter of fact, he was confident that they could make a difference.
So they did that. He sent the powder over, the nutritional powder, which was it wasn’t synthetic. It wasn’t artificial. It was the real stuff. It was genuine and authentic nutrition and they gave it to the children for a year and then after a year, the report came back that they lost no children that year, which was the first time in a decade that they hadn’t lost a single child and they’d been losing 30 to 40 a year.
